- 1873-S Liberty Head Half Eagle. AU-53+ (PCGS). CAC. Remarkably for such a scarce and conditionally challenging issue, this is the second About Uncirculated 1873-S half eagle that you cataloger (JLA) has been tasked with describing for this auction. It is a sharply defined and visually appealing coin with iridescent reddish-rose highlights to dominant deep olive-orange patina. Ample luster persists, the surfaces with a lively satin texture. Bidding opportunities for high grade survivors of this Frontier era San Francisco Mint gold issue are usually few and far between, and interested parties are urged to compete vigorously for this premium PCGS AU-53+ example.
