- There are three major keys to the Barber quarter series; the 96-S, 01-S, and 13-S. The were only 188,039 struck and they are mostly in lower grades, as they entered into circulation and remained there for many years. The presently offered XF45 was fortunate that it was pulled from circulation before the devices became too worn, and the details are bold. Perhaps very lightly wiped long ago, the surfaces have taken on a pleasant toning at the rims. This coin is in a great collector oriented grade and as a date it is always in strong demand from collectors. PCGS 10, NGC 8. The last one to sell in auction sold for $4,637 in August 2012 and the current PCGS price guide value is $5,250. It has been over 11 years since a PCGS AU50 has sold in auction!
