详细说明: WOW and DOUBLE WOW! TIED FOR FINEST GRADED! Glistening cartwheel luster flows over immaculate surfaces enhanced by halcyon toning with a trace of soft peach hues around the border. Under high magnification, a couple of tiny imperfections are noted - a small contact mark on Jefferson’s head and a fleck of dirt on his cheek. A prize for the collector looking for the CREME DE LA CREME! Struck from two different die pairs. One (1938) has the more indistinct, wavy steps. On the second reverse, the steps were strengthened and more fully delineated on the reverse of 1940. Neither is scarcer than the other, however, it seems to us it would be tougher to get the Full Steps designation on the reverse of 1938 because the dies were not cut with the same clarity as the reverse of 1940. PCGS 8, NGC 5. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $7,500 and there are just two auction records, one in the 2019 ANA auction at $2,640 and the other selling in March of 2016 for $6,463. Not many opportunities come along to obtain an example of this exceedingly tough issue, so don’t miss the boat.
