1902 Liberty Quarter Eagle. Proof-66 (NGC). The 1902 introduces us to the all-brilliant portion of the proof Liberty Quarter Eagle series. Beginning with this issue and continuing through the series' end in 1907, examples typically display uniformly brilliant surfaces with little, if any contrast between the fields and devices. Such is the finish displayed by the present example, but where this coin departs from the norm for the issue is in the area of surface preservation. Both sides are exceptionally smooth with hardly even a single trivial hairline or other blemish in evidence. Bright yellow-gold color throughout, with simply exquisite eye appeal.
