- Ohio--Cincinnati. 1863 N. Mendal Shafer. Fuld-165FN-4b. Rarity-10. Brass. Plain Edge. MS-62 (PCGS). 19 mm. A satiny, sharply struck example with only a few light carbon spots precluding a Choice Mint State rating. Handsome deep brassy-gold patina throughout, glints of rose, olive and flint gray further enhance the eye appeal. Among other accomplishments, attorney and lecturer Noah Mendal Shafer was involved in creating patriotic diagrams of the structure of the federal government building. Most of his tokens are rare, the type offered here thought to be unique as of the 2014 edition of the Fuld reference on Civil War store cards. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
