- The mintage of 3,677 is the lowest of any Charlotte mint quarter eagle issue, and is the scarcest overall. This choice AU has a very strong strike and rich orange gold color. A strong luster shines on the lightly abraded surfaces, which are normally seen on this date. In fact, the surface quality is better than normally seen for this date. A victim of conservation gradeflation, the 55-C has seen many coins conserved and upgraded, there are coins that were 55s and 58s now residing in 61 holders; this lovely coin has the rich-orange gold skin that should be seen on this issue.. The details are razor sharp, and only the lightest hint of friction can be seen. PCGS 20, NGC 15. Before falling victim to gradeflation, AU55s were bringing low five figure prices back in the late 90s. Since then, they have generally sold in the $6,000-$8,000 range. The most recent 55-C was offered twice in the last six months, both times selling for a really cheap price. This coin is much more even and boldly eye appealing. The current PCGS value is $7,600. Before the last one sold, you have to go back to 2012 to find an APR. In 58, there has not been a PCGS coin sold since March 2011, and the last NGC 58 sold for $7,344. If you collect Charlotte $2.50 or rare gold, bid liberally on this wonderful AU55. PCGS # 7775 Cert. Number 15606467 PCGS # 7775
