THE XANNO COLLECTION The 1870 Indian Head cent, despite a mintage of 5.275 million pieces, is conditionally challenging in all GEM grades, especially so in the RED color classification. This "+" graded GEM has a fantastic luster that radiates on the gold-tinged red surfaces. An antique dusting of the faintest iridescent tone attests to the originality and adds to the fantastic eye appeal. The strike is bold, and all a glass reveals is a tiny fleck near the top of the obverse, invisible to the naked eye. PCGS 57, NGC 7, CAC 10. There are 16 graded MS65+ RD at PCGS, and with the rarity of this date in MS66 RD or finer, we suspect that there is much duplication of submissions in MS65 and MS65+ RD. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $4,250 and this one realized $4,320 in May 2022. In MS66 RD, the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $10,000. As noted, the 1870 is a conditionally challenging date, only a dozen have graded finer, NONE higher than MS66+ RD. This wonderful GEM will fit nicely in any HIGH END set. Good luck. Cert.
