- 1852 Pattern Annular, or Ring-Form Gold Dollar. Judd-147, Pollock-175. Rarity-7-. Copper. Plain Edge. Proof-66 RB (PCGS). CAC.
Obv:The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above and the date 1852 below the central perforation. A crenulated line design encircles the perforation. Rev: The denomination DOLLAR above and an ornamental wreath below the central perforation. A blazing, fiery deep red and rose Gem with intense luster and amazing aesthetic appeal. Additionally, the strike is bold to sharp and readily equal to the challenge of the grade. The uspatterns.comwebsite describes this as "the most polished of the 4 gold dollar pattern designs of this year." Off metal impressions such as this copper specimen are believed to be restrikes from the late 1850s or later, with approximately three dozen extant.
Provenance: From our (American Numismatic Rarities') Thomas H. Sebring Collection sale, January 2004, lot 99.
PCGS Population: 5; 0 finer. There are no RD examples known to this service.
