Exceptional Kirin Silver Fantasy Tael CHINA. Kirin. Fantasy Silver Tael, "Year 8 (1882)". Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). NGC MS-62. cf. L&M-503 (for rough prototype); K-F914; KMX-M322; WS-1349-65. This Fantasy Tael, which was influenced by the EXTREMELY RAREofficial issue of 1884 (L&M-503), featuring much shimmering brilliance and a bold strike of the complex design elements. Touches of brightening toning are seen in the low lying areas of the design, with these deepening the character of the example. Limited friction likely accounts for the grade assigned, though this remains an impressive and certain to be desired example. Estimate: $10,000 - $15,000.
