- 1787 Vermont Copper. RR-15, Bressett 9-I, W-2060. Rarity-6. Bust Left. AG-3 (PCGS). This is the only die marriage in the Vermont copper series in which the obverse portrait faces to the left, and it is an important rarity in all grades. RR-15 is also very challenging to locate with above striking quality and surfaces. Indeed, most examples are akin to the present piece -- dark, somewhat granular and lightly pitted surfaces with portions of the design missing due to a combination of an uneven strike and heavy wear. The date is missing due to the diagnostic die break that obscures the entire lower reverse border area. Still, much of the obverse portrait is outlined, and several peripheral devices on both sides are bold and clear. An important rarity for the advanced Vermont copper collector, and a coin that is sure to attract significant attention from specialized bidders. A couple of ancient pin scratches over and before the top of the obverse portrait are noted for accuracy. PCGS# 557.
