Among the FINEST approved by CAC, this near-GEM is bested by just five coins at PCGS. Only 74,041 pieces were struck at the New Orleans Mint this year, and while this date and Mint is obtainable up through the grade of MS62, finer pieces are tough to locate. Doug Winter believes that the top coins listed in the PCGS and NGC (MS66) data are represented by a single example which increases the stature of this piece. A bold, delightfully lustrous and totally original example. The surfaces gleam with a sweeping cartwheel brilliance. Rich, original orange-gold toning graces both sides, and the surfaces are not hacked up like most of the examples repatriated from overseas holdings. PCGS 21, NGC 5, CAC 8. PCGS has graded just five coins finer, four in MS64+ and a 66. The most recent comp was the PCGS MS63 CAC from the Fairmont-Hendricks Collection which brought $9,300 in April 2022. We sold a PCGS MS64+ CAC back in 2015 for $10,869. We think this coin will realize in excess of current published levels. Do not let this important condition rarity slip your grasp. Good luck. Cert.
