- 1840 Liberty Head Eagle. EF-40 (PCGS). This sharp and lustrous coin is from an underrated issue among early Liberty eagles. Original luster persists in the protected areas around many of the devices, and it is most vibrant when the surfaces are viewed in a good light source. Evenly toned in a blend of pale olive and orange, this coin represents a significant find for astute Liberty eagle collectors. From a mintage of 47,388 pieces, survivors of which are much scarcer in an absolute sense than many numismatists realize. PCGS# 8581. NGC ID: 262G.
