A great mid-grade Charlotte mint example, one of only 39,788 struck and one of about 500 known in all grades, most in the VF-XF range. This CAC approved XF40 has a warm honey gold coloration. An appropriate number of abrasions for the assigned grade are natural from honest time in southern commercial channels prior to (and likely after) the Civil War. Very attractive! PCGS 30, NGC 17, CAC 5. The last PCGS/CAC coin sold in June 2021 for $5,520; prior to that another example sold in November 2020 for $5,040 and one in March 2021 for $3,600. Both the CAC CPG and PCGS Price Guides are not accurate at all in this grade. We expect this lovely XF40 will bring a strong bid, a great coin for a circulated set of southern branch mint gold. Cert.
