- 1905-O Barber Half Dollar. AU-58+ (PCGS). CAC. Really a fantastic example of a New Orleans Mint Barber half dollar, this near-fully lustrous example also retains virtually full striking detail throughout the design. Lightly toned in iridescent pewter gray, both sides reveal glints of olive, russet and champagne-gold as the surfaces rotate under a light. Heavily circulated as a type, most Barber half dollar issues are more challenging to locate in the finest circulated grades than in Mint State. Whereas contemporary dealers and other numismatists squirreled away some Uncirculated coins at or near the time of issue, minimally worn examples received no such attention. The mintmarked issues from New Orleans and San Francisco are particularly elusive in attractive, problem free AU-55 and AU-58, this premium quality near-Mint 1905-O sure to see spirited bidding before settling in at a strong price.
