- 1858 Pattern Indian Cent. Judd-212, Pollock-263. Rarity-4. Proof-64 (NGC). The obverse design is the same that the Mint used to strike regular issue Indian Cents from 1860 through early 1864. The date is centered in the field below the portrait, and the tip of the truncation of the bust is rounded. The reverse exhibits the denomination ONE CENT surrounded by an oak wreath with a broad ornamental shield at the top. A bundle of three arrows and an olive sprig are bound at the base of the wreath. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge.<br /> Pretty reddish-orange peripheral toning frames bright yellow-gold centers, the latter areas also revealing a few swirls of pinkish-rose tinting. Both sides are fully struck with pleasing semi-brilliance evident in the fields at more direct angles.
