An exceptional, near-GEM survivor of the Civil War. During the third year of the conflict, coins of all metals were widely hoarded and mintages dropped; for the trime, only 21,000 were struck. A bold, flashy luster beams from the smooth, high end quality fields. The fields have accents of semi-PL reflection which really captivates the eye. A delicate dusting of pearly gold iridescence comes out in the light and the eye appeal is very high end for the grade. PCGS 27, NGC 24, CAC 5. The most recent example to sell in auction had a GOLD sticker and sold for a very strong $5,170. The only other CAC approved MS64 sold over five years ago.
