- 1886 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. MS-61 (NGC). Vivid-reddish-gold surfaces are sharply defined with a lovely satin to modestly reflective finish. Struck during a decade of low mintage quarter eagle production, the 1886 was produced to the extent of just 4,000 coins in circulation strike format. There was clearly little need for this denomination in commercial channels at the time, its larger brethren (half eagle, eagle, double eagle) deemed more useful for both domestic use and international trade.
