- A lovely example of this historical date. While more than 653,000 were struck, these went into commercial channels during the Gold Rush and Antebellum periods, and remained there. While available in circulated grades, Mint State examples are true condition rarities. The present example has a very high end look, at first glance you would expect a fully CHOICE grade. The details are sharply impressed on both sides with precision, razor sharp definition to the hair and feather details. The brilliant luster shines boldly on both sides, with a touch of flashy PL texture. The surfaces are intriguing under magnification with striations, die polish lines, planchet flakes, as made, as well as a few widely scattered ticks that attest for the assigned grade. EXTREMELY RARE any finer. PCGS 15, NGC 9. There are just a dozen graded finer than the present MS62. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $12,500. The finest to come out of the extensive Fairmont hoard seems to be an MS61. The PCGS MS63 ex Simpson/Hall Collections sold in our September 2015 sale and the Jacobson MS64 sold in February 2020. This is a date that rarely sells in auction and this opportunity must not be missed! Cert. Number 35388111 PCGS # 8601
