- This gorgeous GEM example of this R-7+ Standard Silver pattern quarter is tied for FINEST honors at PCGS and is fresh to the market. Barber's Liberty head wears a cap with three stars and hair tied in a ribbon, inscribed LIBERTY. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. The rich mirrors are a deep brick red color with overtones of magenta and violet. The eye appeal is spectacular and the surfaces are impeccable for the assigned grade. Indeed the only thing we see that might keep it from an even higher grade is a fleck or two hidden in the obverse legend. All the details are razor sharp too! PCGS 2, NGC 0, CAC 1. This is the first example enumerated by Andrew Pollock in his reference, being ex Superior's June 1977 sale of the Dr. Couch Collection, lot 416; Bowers and Ruddy's July 1981 sale of the William R. Sieck Collection, lot 141; and Mid-America's September 1985 San Diego Sale, lot 997. We cannot trace it since, and housed in a second generation holder, it may well have been off the market since then--the definition of FRESH. The Simpson coin that we sold in January 2017 sold for $6,463. Worthy of a very strong bid, this coin is bound for a specialized Standard Silver pattern collection. Cert. Number 7100012 PCGS # 071134
