- 1938-D Boone Bicentennial. MS-68 (PCGS). A nearly flawless and vibrantly toned example with a satiny cartwheeling complexion dancing across both sides. Subtle plum and bronze colors at the centers blend with sea-green and tangerine-gold near the borders. One of the rarest issues in the commemorative half dollar series; only 2,100 examples were issued. The grade distribution for the 1938-D is essentially a bell curve with most examples in the range from MS-64 to MS-66. MS-67 coins are elusive, and pieces at the MS-68 level -- as offered here -- are extremely rare. This piece is truly one of the more desirable survivors with only 3 coins ranking finer at PCGS.
