- 1865 Silver Three-Cent Piece. MS-65 (PCGS). Richly original surfaces exhibit vivid undertones of cobalt blue, deep rose and reddish-gold to dominant charcoal-olive patina. Fully struck with expert surface preservation that seems conservatively graded even at the Gem MS-65 level. The trend of limited circulation strike silver three-cent issues that began early in the Civil War reached a low for the era of 8,000 pieces in 1865. Survivors are elusive even in worn condition, while Mint State examples are scarce to rare in all grades. Expertly preserved with outstanding eye appeal, this premium quality example is definitely in the latter category and would do justice to an advanced numismatic cabinet.
