- GREAT BRITAIN. Anglo-Gallic. Ecu d'Or, ND (1344-60). Uncertain Mint, possibly Bordeaux. Edward III. PCGS MS-62.
Elias-33; S-8035; Poey d'Avant-2835; Dup-286C. Weight: 4.34 gms. Obverse: Edward, holding sword and resting hand upon coat-of-arms, seated facing on ornate Gothic throne; all within tressure of arches; Reverse: Ornate cross fleuree with central four-petalled flower, with bars ending in trefoils; inward-facing leaves in quarters; all within quadrilobe, with arches ending in trefoils. A VERY RAREissue for Edward's claims in France, this piece was modelled after the gold coinage of Philip VI, helping to reinstitute gold coinage in the British Isles.
