- The Korean Whan -- A Stunning Rarity KOREA. Whan, Year 502 (1893). Kojong (as King). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. KM-1115; K&C-29.1. Mintage: 77 (reported). The first of this rather elusive and EXTREMELY RAREtype that we have had the pleasure of offering since 2009, the present crown yields a steely gray overall appearance and some alluring burnished toning as one approaches the peripheries. Meanwhile, the strike is sharp and exacting, with a hint of frosting evident upon the devices. The noted cleaning is quite minimal, and given the robust RARITY, is fairly easily overlooked. It goes without saying that a crown of this magnitude, especially within a burgeoning series such as Korean, could enter the numismatic stratosphere upon crossing the auction block.
