- THE B.S.T. COLLECTION Legend Rare Coin Auctions is honored and proud to offer the SECOND FINEST KNOWN 1854 Seated Liberty silver dollar. What an AMAZING coin! Only 33,140 silver dollars were struck, and it is thought that this was the first year that the silver dollar was exported to Asia for the China trade. It is possible that the majority of the issuance was sent to China, where they were later melted. An underappreciated rarity, CoinFacts estimates 900 survive in all grades; 40 in all Mint State grades; and just a handful in GEM grades. Out of eight graded MS65 between PCGS and NGC, the presently offered coin is the SOLE example approved by CAC and no MS65 has sold in auction since Heritage's March 1996 "Early Spring ANA" sale. An intense, pearly silver satiny luster blooms with a strong brilliance throughout on both sides. A rich, original antique silver with rose and pale gold in the centers framed by accents of deeper blue at the obverse periphery. The surfaces are very clean, and magnified inspection with a strong glass betrays only the most insignificant tick or two, nothing that is visible to the naked eye. An exacting blow from the dies left every detail very crisply rendered on the planchet, all the devices are razor sharp. The eye appeal is truly stunning in every way! WOW. PCGS 2, NGC 6, CAC 1. Where are the NGC coins? None have ever come up for sale. This is not the example that sold in the March 1996 Heritage sale. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $110,000 and the CAC CPG value is listed at $122,400. There is just a single coin graded higher, the former Akers-Legend-Morelan Collection coin that now resides in the Del Loy Hansen Collection. We expect this gorgeous GEM Seated Liberty dollar to bring a strong bid, and worthy of a WORLD CLASS set! Good luck. Cert. Number 25596537 PCGS # 6942
