- EX SADDLE RIDGE HOARD, as noted on the holder. Nearly 30% of the gold coins from the famed Saddle Ridge Hoard were 1889-S double eagles. This stunningly brilliant borderline GEM has a SUPERB luster and boldly struck devices. Boasting a full booming luster that you can see from across the room, the surfaces are generally clean, the devices sharp and frosty, and the color is a bright, glittering yellow gold. The surfaces are very clean and show only very minute ticks on either side. It is astonishing that this coin sat in a rusting tin can with many other large gold coins underground and stayed with bold, lustrous, and clean surfaces. PCGS 72, NGC 37.
