A rare date from a mintage of only 16,093. David Akers noted that the 1859 "is a very rare date in all grades...the typical 1859 is VF or EF." Thanks to the S.S. Republic shipwreck recovery and the extensive Fairmont Collection holdings, a few more are known today. This is a wholesome totally original XF with traces of Prooflike texture clinging areas of the well struck design elements. The wear is minimal and problem free, the eye appeal is quite pleasing. PCGS 28, NGC 23, CAC 4. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $2,000.
