- THE SOMMELIER COLLECTION A lovely CHOICE BD-1. The 1813 is the most available of the ever popular "Fat Head" fives, and as such is the most popularly collected date for type purposes. This type is particularly difficult to locate, as most of these old tenor gold pieces were exported in the 1820s as their bullion value surpassed their stated face value. The present example is boldly struck and offers a bold satiny glow. The brilliant luster glows boldly surrounding the sharply impressed design elements and the satiny smooth surfaces. The technical quality is all there, and this coin has an eye catching visual allure that is usually reserved for higher numerical grade examples. PCGS 52, NGC 57, CAC 15. The most recent example to sell brought $18,000 in October 2020 and the current Collectors Universe value is $21,500. Keep in mind that we sold a PCGS MS63 CAC for $30,550 in January 2020.
