1853-O Liberty Double Eagle. Winter Variety One, the only known dies. EF-40 (PCGS). Warm olive-gold patina blankets both sides, the color evenly distributed throughout. Traces of a semi-prooflike finish flash from the fields as the coin dips into a light, this feature being quite pronounced despite the presence of light wear and wispy abrasions. With a much lower mintage of 71,000 pieces, the 1853-O is scarcer than the 1850-O, 1851-O and 1852-O Double Eagles in all grades.
