详细说明: 1867 Shield Nickel. Rays. Proof-64 (PCGS). CAC. The proof variant of the 1867 Rays is almost certainly a backdated issue that was produced during the 1870s for sale to contemporary collectors. As it is not part of the regular issue Shield Nickel series, we do not have an official mintage figure for this coin. The number of pieces extant, however, suggests that no more than 50 examples were struck. Clearly this is a rare issue in numismatic circles, and it is the undisputed key-date coin to completion of a proof Shield Nickel set.<br />     Silver-gold surfaces are nicely mirrored in finish with a razor-sharp strike to the devices. Otherwise well preserved, a few trivial blemishes are insignificant at the near-Gem level. Definitely a highlight of this 1867 proof set, and a coin that would also serve as a highlight in a more expansive collection.
