An amazing SUPERB GEM 1854 3CS! Even though there are two finer (the MS68 is impounded in the #1 Simpson Collection Legend built), we fully rank this coin as one of the FINEST 1854's that exist! The near-perfect surfaces are simply amazing, we even used a strong glass and looked multiple times for problems-and found none. We can't imagine how this coin lasted for 164 years in such a remarkable virtually untouched state of preservation. A full, satiny, booming luster can be seen from across the room. Outstanding cartwheels swirl all over. Only the lightest traces of toning can be seen. We do not see these so needle sharp in strike as this coin is. This is way superior to the majority of 1854's in GEM we have ever seen. The eye appeal is super! PCGS 17, NGC 4, CAC 13. Only two are graded MS66+. Of course, this coin has never been sold in auction. PCGS has graded only one 67 and the lone MS68 (which sold for $64,625 in 2014). We doubt you will be able to improve this coin and ever get a better one. The other MS66+ was the Ipswich Collection coin we sold in our January 2018 Regency Auction for $7,638 and the current Collector's Universe value is listed at $9,000.
