Only 12,000 quarters were struck in 1889. As had been the case throughout the decade, due to the mint's focus on churning out hundreds of millions of Morgan dollars, the mintages of quarters and half dollars dropped dramatically, most years saw mintages under 10,000. This is a SUPERB example from this low mintage, and as a date, these are VERY RARE any finer. Blazing cartwheel brilliance swirls boldly across the surfaces. The intense luster brings out a vivacity to the pastel iridescent toning that gracefully ensconces both obverse and reverse. Soft green and blue tinged pewter with rose and orange-gold dappling throughout the the peripheral devices and in the central reverse. The surfaces are devoid of any serious marks and the eye appeal is excellent. PCGS 24, NGC 26, CAC 15. We sold the most recent PCGS/CAC coin for $4,113 in February 2021. Prior to that, we sold one for $4,583 in October 2020. The CAC CPG value is $6,470 and the Collectors Universe value is $5,250. RARE any finer, PCGS has graded just 9 in higher grade than the currently offered SUPERB piece! Do not let this one pass you by! Cert. Number 42609468 PCGS # 5522.00
