Despite a generous mintage of 7,368,000, the 1858 quarter is quite scarce in high grades, especially in Premium GEM grades as offered here. The surfaces are super clean and do have a satiny smooth appearance. Somewhat blunt in the reverse center, otherwise sharply struck. The reverse die was cracked and clashed and these die defects add charm to the eye appeal. Brilliant untoned silver surfaces glow boldly across the nearly flawless surfaces. The eye appeal is great.
PCGS 14, NGC 14. The last two sold for $4,080 and $4,320 in March 2023 and January 2022 respectively. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $5,000. There are just three graded higher at PCGS, This is a nice piece for any GEM type set.
