- 1927-D Buffalo Nickel. MS-65 (PCGS).
Delightful satin surfaces are lightly and attractively toned in iridescent reddish-gold that is more pronounced on the reverse. This is a boldly struck coin - and an uncommon one in a Denver Mint nickel from the 1920s - that is also carefully preserved to further justify the coveted Gem Mint State rating from PCGS. Underrated relative to the better known Buffalo nickel strike rarities such as the 1919-D, 1919-S, 1920-S, 1925-D and 1925-S, the 1927-D is very challenging to locate in well defined Gem Mint State. The present example is certainly far finer than the typically offered Uncirculated survivor and is worthy of inclusion in an advanced Buffalo nickel set.
Provenance: From the Silver Springs Collection.
PCGS# 3961. NGC ID: 22S9.
