Sharply defined over the focal features, this handsome honey-orange example also retains considerable luster that is easiest to appreciate with the aid of strong lighting. The Philadelphia Mint's third contribution to the long-running Liberty Head eagle series, the 1840 was produced to the extent of 47,338 pieces.
