- "1787" Fugio Copper. "New Haven Restrike." Newman 104-FF, W-17560. Copper. MS-65 RB (PCGS). CAC. This frosty and lustrous Gem example of a popular adjunct to the Fugio copper series displays rich mint orange iridescence tempered with lively golden tan highlights. The strike is sharp and the surfaces exhibit only a few scattered flecks seen under low magnification. The telltale signs of heavy die rust can be seen on the reverse, as always seen on examples of Newman 104-FF. Choice for the grade. This particular “restrike” and others of similar nature are part of a very complex story involving Horatio N. Rust, young C. Wyllys Betts, and the publicized discover of original dies at the store of Broome & Platt, the site where Fugio coppers were indeed originally struck. However, it seems that this particular pair of dies was created after the fact as a numismatic stunt.<br />
