- One of the, if not the FINEST graded 1846 quarter eagles! This coin is VERY HIGH END! There were only 21,598 struck for circulation, and they did just that, circulate. Mint State examples are quite challenging and PCGS has never graded any finer than MS63! David Akers noted that the 1846 was a "very scarce and generally under appreciated date....As the auction records show, specimens better than EF are extremely rare." An intense luster shows off slightly Prooflike surfaces. Only when using a strong glass can you see a few ticks and lines (some of these are die polish lines). Nothing is serious. Both sides are a brilliant, even gold color, and there is no "dirt" or "crust" just fabulous as struck surfaces! Miss Liberty and the details are frosted and fully struck. There is light contrast. The eye appeal is AMAZING! PCGS 3, NGC 2, CAC 2. The other CAC coin is NGC-graded and sold for $26,400 in January 2022. The PCGS Price Guide and CAC CPG are not up to speed and this coin, with its better visual allure than the NGC-graded coin, will sell for way more--our consignor paid $36,500 for it! Cert. Number 41954955 PCGS # 7740
