- 1923-S Mercury Dime. MS-66 FB (NGC). Pretty champagne-gold iridescence engages the reverse, as well as the obverse periphery. Satiny mint luster throughout with a sharply executed strike and exceptionally well preserved surfaces. Dime production at the San Francisco Mint amounted to 6,440,000 pieces in 1923, and attrition through circulation was high beginning during the economic boom of the Roaring Twenties. The 1923-S is scarce even in VF and EF, and it is rare in the finest Mint State grades, as here. NGC Census: 3; 0 finer in this category. PCGS# 4941. NGC ID: 23HH.
