- 1878 Seated Liberty Quarter. Proof-65 Cameo (NGC). A scarcer issue than a mintage of 800 pieces might imply, many proof 1878 Seated Quarters may have been melted to provide bullion for the newly authorized Morgan Dollar. The coin we offer here is an impressive strike and condition rarity with bold cameo contrast to both sides. The obverse is lightly patinated with rose-apricot iridescence confined to the periphery. The reverse is also rim toned, albeit in much more vivid midnight-blue and reddish-apricot colors. Fully struck throughout, with no blemishes that would call into question the validity of the assigned grade.
