WOW! This tiny golden jewel is a hairs breadth from a full SUPERB designation! The mintage of nearly half a million would suggest a more common issue, but in GEM and higher grades the 1850 is VERY RARE indeed! Intensely brilliant fields have a hint of semi-PL reflection surrounding the razor sharp devices. There is a thick frosty texture that stands out nicely against the fields. Very high end quality surfaces, there are only a few very tiny mostly hidden traces of contact that prevent a higher SUPERB grade. The eye appeal is incredible and even the pickiest of gold bugs will fall in love! PCGS 5, NGC 3, CAC 2. There are just two in this lofty grade, and just three MS68s graded finer. In a very weak market, this coin sold for $15,275 (almost 6 years ago in the 2016 FUN auction). Today the PCGS price Guide value is listed at $20,000 and the most recent MS68 with CAC sold for a record $88,125 in our May 2020 Regency Auction. This is a fantastic coin worthy of an amazing set of gold dollars or gold type coins. Either way, if you are a gold bug, you will fall in love with this beauty! Cert. Number 25658434 PCGS # 7509
