The year 1837 was a transitional year at the mint, switching from the Capped Bust to Seated Liberty design. The first Seated dimes had no stars on the obverse making Liberty the focus of the design type, giving it a cameo like appearance. This is a very high end GEM quality example. Displaying a classic palette of deeper antique silver, dove/pewter-gray, sky blue, and delicate rose accents, this is a very eye appealing specimen. A sharp strike compliments the satiny smooth, frosty lustrous surfaces. Typical for the date, the obverse has a pair of die cracks that extend from the rim at 7:30 and 4:30 and converge in the drapery, just below Liberty's knee. This is one very appealing example. PCGS 30, NGC 26, CAC 17. The most recent example was not as pleasing as this one, realizing $9,900 in April 2021. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $10,000 and we think this coin will bring that or more. Only a dozen are graded finer.
