FROM THE PERFECTION COLLECTION OF CAPPED BUST HALF DOLLARS Truly a SPECTACULAR O-107! The SECOND FINEST KNOWN example from this pair of dies, and tied for second HIGHEST GRADED at PCGS. While listed as Rarity-3 in Overton, Stephen Herrman's listing in the AMBPR lists this die pair as Rarity-4+. Either way, this coin is certainly high up in the Condition Census, making it an important offering for any Bust Half Nut. Razor sharp in strike from a very early reverse die state, showing the C in 50 C boldly recut at the base and missing the small die cracks that are seen on the other SUPERB example, the NGC MS67 Earle-Eliasberg-Thomas coin. Wholly original and boasting splendid ivory, olive, and russet-gold patina over glowing brilliant antique silver surfaces. The devices show full, crisp definition. The look is very similar to the Eliasberg specimen, suggesting that this coin, at one time was a part of another classic old time collection. The surfaces are essentially flawless and only a powerful loupe will aid in the location of some of the tiniest traces of contact anywhere, none of which have any kind of impact on the AMAZING eye appeal. Ex Bowers & Merena, September 2008, lot 319; Heritage, January 2009, lot 3846 (as NGC MS66), unsold. PCGS 4, NGC 1, CAC 3. No CAC-approved example has ever sold in auction. The Pogue Collection contained two of the three MS66s graded by PCGS--an O-106 and an O-113. The O-106 last appeared in our sale of the Chicago Collection in September 2021 for $32,900; the O-113 has not sold since its initial offering in 2015, where it realized $58,750. The current CAC CPG value is listed at $42,000 and the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $38,500. We expect this gorgeous coin will bring a very strong price. The Pogue MS67 sold for $64,625 seven years ago and has not sold since. A fantastic example of this elusive die marriage that is more challenging than the Overton reference might suggest. Good luck.
