1863 Seated Liberty Silver Dollar. MS-63 (NGC). Struck at a time when the coins' bullion content outstripped their face value in domestic circulation, most 1863 Seated dollars were instead used in the United States' export trade of the 1860s. Survivors of this 27,200 piece business strike issue are very scarce today even in circulated grades. Mint State coins are rare, and they are eagerly sought by advanced collectors of both Seated Liberty coinage and silver dollars in general. This satin to semi prooflike piece reveals vibrant mint bloom beneath an overlay of warm, even, silver-apricot iridescence. Fully struck from the dies, with most grade defining abrasions confined to the upper reverse field.
