FROM THE M & S PETTY COLLECTION The mintage climbed to 46,110 in 1853, however, many were exported and melted, even after the Coinage Act of 1853 reduced the weights of the smaller denomination silver coins. This VERY CHOICE example ranks high up on the PCGS Population Report, with just five examples that have ever graded higher. Fully satiny brilliant luster glows on both sides of this near-GEM. A vibrant, pearlescent silver/gold patina graces the surfaces, enlivened by a soft roll of cartwheel luster. Sharply struck, frosty devices are unmarred by any serious contact anywhere; only a powerful loupe will locate any minute tick on the VERY CHOICE surfaces. Premium quality and high end, this coin has a great look. PCGS 20, NGC 31. In the weak 2016 market, this coin sold for $11,163. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $15,000 and we think this coin could sell for more. The only MS65 to sell realized $111,625 in our February 2014 Regency Auction.
