- FROM THE SEATTLE COLLECTION Ex Eric P. Newman Collection, earlier ex Col. Green Collection. This is an incredibly RARE pattern shield nickel, struck from the regular issue dies, in copper with a plain edge. Considered to be RARITY-8. While the population data at both services combined show four coins other than this one, this is the only CAC approved one. Rich red color mingles with mellowing golden-brown hues over the satiny surfaces. Interestingly the fields are not mirrored reflective. The details are razor sharp in definition from an exacting impression from the dies. Also adding to the intriguing nature of this coin is the high wire rims on both obverse and reverse, especially so on the obverse. There are no spots or traces of contact anywhere to distract the eye, this coin has a great look and is essentially tied with the Simpson coin for FINEST KNOWN honors. PCGS 0, NGC 1, CAC 1. This coin was last sold in December 2013 for $9,400 and in the first Newman Collection sale, in April 2013 it realized $11,163. In PR65 RB, the current Collectors Universe value is $10,000 and is unpriced in 66 RB. Excessively RARE, this may prove to be a once a decade opportunity to buy this incredibly RARE Judd number. Cert. Number 2034618-048 PCGS # 71694.00
