1868 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. AU-53 (PCGS). Seldom offered in any grade, the 1868 (just 4,850 pieces produced) is seen much less often than the low-mintage Threes from the 1880s. Retaining flickers of original luster and ample evidence of a bold-to-sharp strike, this lightly circulated survivor is also possessed of nicely blended honey-gold and pale-rose colors. There are no abrasions of note apart from a few wispy handling marks in the left-obverse field.
