(Faith and Constancy Proven through Fire); Reverse: Tiny angel holds city Arms over seven line Latin inscription: ".THORVNIA./ HOSTILITER. OPPUGNATA/ .ET. DEI. O. AUXILIO./ FORTR. A. CIVIB. DEFENSA/ .XVI. FEBR./ ANNO/ .M. DC. XXIX" (Thorn Attacked by the Enemy, and Defended by the Help of God and Citizens, Feb. 16, 1629) over arabesque. Siege coin recording the attack of the Swedes during King Sigismund's wars with his former kingdom, and one of the scarcest Crown-sized pieces of Poland and her suzerain cities. A tremendous piece with abundant historical and visual flavor. A few small planchet flaws, nice even strike, lightly toned and quite attractive.
