These white tag NGC holders were the first generation of NGC encapsulation after the famed NGC "Black" slabs. This generation has the solid white core insert with hand cut, plain white labels on the front of the coin holder, with the gold embossed NGC logo on the outside of the plastic on the reverse, used roughly for a week or two in November 1987. This 1923 Peace dollar is wholesome, original, and in our opinion conservatively graded. Sharply struck with a dusting of russet-golden brown seen in the protected areas, but mostly the surfaces have a lustrous brilliance.
These early holders are coveted, and are considered to be quite scarce in the market. Over the last few years, as they come out of old holdings, many get cracked out as there are many upgrade candidates. As time goes on these early holders will become rarer and harder to find for collectors specializing in the evolution of coin grading services.
