- The Mastodon Collection. Most Hawaii cents extant today show excessively dark surfaces or have experienced significant wear. Not so this beauty, which yields a definite majority of brown color to the viewer, but benefits from noticeable traces of red, particularly on the obverse. Neither side suffers much from the carbon stains also frequently seen, as there are perhaps two to three small and only slightly darker toning areas scattered throughout. A well struck example that certainly makes less well preserved issues look mundane by comparison.
