- 1901 Morgan Silver Dollar. VAM-5. Hot 50 Variety. Doubled Die Obverse, Ear, Doubled Die Reverse, Olive. MS-61 (PCGS). CAC. A fully lustrous, boldly to sharply struck example of this eagerly sought issue. Both sides are uncommonly smooth in hand for the assigned grade, and further adorned with pretty champagne-gold iridescence. The 1901 is one of the best known condition rarities in the circulation strike Morgan dollar series, with Uncirculated survivors eagerly sought throughout the Mint State grade range. The coin offered here, alone among Mint State examples of the VAM-5 variety known to PCGS, represents a particularly important find for the advanced variety collector.
