An exceptional quality AU example of this KEY DATE. Only 100,000 were struck for circulation, the lowest mintage of the entire series. Because of its rarity, many examples have been resubmitted in hopes of attaining a higher grade, thus inflating the Population and Census figures. What is telling is how few examples have been approved by CAC. The presently offered CHOICE AU piece has a bold retained luster that swirls on both sides. Well struck with just the lightest trace of friction that can be seen in the fields and on the devices. Mostly untoned (and would fit nicely in an untoned set), there is only the faintest hint of the palest clear gold iridescence The eye appeal is fabulous for this date and grade. PCGS 88, NGC 47, CAC 7. NO CAC-approved AU53 has ever sold in auction. The current CAC CPG value is listed at $29,400, and keep in mind that an AU55 with CAC will cost between $40,000 and $45,000 in today's market. This high end AU53 will indeed bring a very strong bid!
